🔍 Many people spend years trying to find out why they feel dizzy, exhausted, light-headed or experience a racing heart. They may be told they have anxiety, panic attacks, IBS, stress or are simply unfit.
⚠️ Sometimes those explanations are correct.
✅ Sometimes they are not.
🧬 One condition that is becoming increasingly recognised is dysautonomia, a disorder affecting the autonomic nervous system, the part of the nervous system that automatically regulates heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, digestion, temperature regulation and many other essential body functions.
Why is dysautonomia often missed?
🔗 Dysautonomia frequently overlaps with conditions such as:
- Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
- Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)
- Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)
- Fibromyalgia
- Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS)
🧭 Because symptoms can involve many different body systems, people often see several specialists before the underlying autonomic dysfunction is recognised.
It is more than feeling stressed
🌿 Living with dysautonomia can affect almost every aspect of daily life.
🚩 People may experience:
- Dizziness or faintness on standing
- A rapid heartbeat
- Poor temperature regulation
- Fatigue that is not relieved by sleep
- Digestive problems
- Brain fog
- Exercise intolerance
- Sleep disturbance
✅ These symptoms are genuine physiological changes. Although anxiety can exist alongside dysautonomia, the two should not automatically be assumed to be the same thing.
Can hypnotherapy help dysautonomia?
🩺 There is currently no single cure for dysautonomia and appropriate medical assessment is essential.
🧠 Alongside medical care, dysautonomia patients can benefit from approaches that help regulate the autonomic nervous system, including clinical hypnotherapy, EMDR, NLP, self-hypnosis and heart rate variability biofeedback.
🌙 These approaches are not intended to replace medical treatment. Instead, they may help reduce sympathetic overactivity, improve relaxation, support better sleep and help develop greater control over the body’s stress response.
