What to do before a session
Interruptions
Please ensure that you will not be interrupted during the session. If there are other people in the property tell them that you are busy for the duration of the appointment and ask them to be quiet.
Inbound phone calls
Please put your phone into silent mode but only allow calls in from 01494471762 (Favourite the number and select only allow calls in from favourite numbers on Android phones).
Unplug your landline if you can’t mute it or put the phone in another room.
Comfort
You will need to be comfortable whist stationary for some time so do consider whether you want to be lying down or sitting.
Ensure that you have used the bathroom before the session and that you have water available if needed.
Make sure that the temperature is about right. Warmer is better than colder.
Phone / camera position
Ensure that your phone’s camera is facing you so I can see you. I may ask you to communicate via finger lifts / head nods so I do need to be able to see you.
The phone / webcam needs to be stable so please use a secure stand.
Video
We generally start with both cameras on. If audio quality is poor we may switch off video one or both cameras to try to improve audio quality.
Sound volumes
You need to be able to hear me so ensure that the volume levels allow that, noting that I speak more quietly during hypnotherapy parts of sessions.
If you can’t hear me when I start the hypnotherapy part of the session let me know and increase your volume levels.
Fallback measures
For UK clients I need to have your mobile number (some people use a landline number that is not known to the public) so I can call you to wake you if your router / 4g access fails.
Please do set an alarm for 30 mins past you scheduled session end time in case your connection drops and I am unable to phone you eg if not UK based.
Timings
Please do not schedule anything for immediately after the session since the session end time can be variable if it takes a while to get the technology side of things setup. Equally, it is possible that I could over-run if the techniques that I am using take longer than expected.
Technology
If possible please use a desktop / laptop with an Ethernet cable connected to your router. Wifi can be erratic.
Switch off other devices connecting to the web and pause windows updates if using a desktop. Downloading large updates will consume a lot of your bandwidth and may result in system restarts.
It may help to reboot your router and desktop the day before your session.
Skype loves to update itself when opened so open Skype a while before the session to ensure that it is up to date.
Ideally use headphones to help block out external sounds.
Close other programs eg eMail / Chrome etc so that only Zoom / Skype is running.
To test your broadband speed open any browser and search for “internet speed test” in Google, then click on the blue button.
Delay automatic updates
Windows or OSX downloads are often very large. A major Windows update could easily mean that 1 GB of updates are downloaded. This has a substantial impact on bandwidth available to Zoom / Skype.
In Windows 10 you can defer updates until a specific date eg +7 days in a few clicks. Click here for instructions…
What happens if the connection drops?
This can of course happen, even when using an Ethernet connection. If in trance, bring yourself back to full alertness and in the first instance reconnect using the same route as before. If that fails then use the fall-back route ie Zoom or Skype. If you are UK based call the fullback landline / mobile numbers above that you are provided with and we will continue without video.
