Advice on choosing a hypnotherapist (based on BSCH guidelines)
BSCH
Keeping you safe
|
Whoever you choose please ensure the following:
- Professional body membership ({eg BSCH require evidence of qualification, appropriate training and insurance}) - they should be listed on the professional bodies website
- Qualified (eg DCHyp, PDCHyp in the UK - explanation below)
- PDCHyp - Practitioner Diploma - Qualified to treat most issues using advanced methods / techniques
- DCHyp - Standard Diploma - Qualified to treat a limited range of issues, may have to refer on if the issue become complicated eg if complex sub-issues emerge
- CHyp - Certificate / Foundation Course - Not yet qualified to treat patients, probably not insured
- Training body accredited by the eg BACP / UKCP (Which means that the therapist should declare their training body). Be cautious of those that have trained only via mail order with no opportunity for supervised practice.
- Office address available to clients and working phone number (expect an answer-phone)
- Any statistics should be backed by one or more published clinical research papers - Note: all claims of "100% success" are false and contradict the human experience
- Note: Having an NHS Independent Service Provider number does not in any way mean that someone is approved by the NHS - it is simply an administrative reference number that anyone at all can obtain - nothing more
- Note: The BSCH and other professional bodies should not register stage hypnotists or support their activities
