Topic = WEIGHT CONTROL

 Post Message Amy HYPNOTHERAPY 23/02/2005 01:00:00
If I use hypnotherapy to help control my weight do I still need to reduce the amount that I eat?

 Post Message Bill Frost HYPNOTHERAPY 23/02/2005 02:00:00

Yes. Your calorific intake should be approx 1940 calories or less and you should increase the amount of exercise that you do.

You should also increase your water intake to approx 2 ltrs per day (more when doing exercise), reduce your portion sizes and take a look at what you are eating.

In summary, the key to weight loss / control is to eat healthily, reduce portion sizes and safely exercising. Hypnotherapy can help you to do all of the above on a more consistent basis.

Is it true that you can catch a fatness virus?

 Post Message Bill Frost HYPNOTHERAPY 24/02/2005 02:00:00

I assume that you're referring to the experimental (and controversial) work of Nikhil Dhurandhar into the effects of the virus Ad-36 as publicised in the press over the last few years.

Ad-36 may or may not play a role with some people, the results thus far are inconclusive in terms of how the virus interacts with human cells. Assuming that there is a link, the virus is thought to activate juvenile fat cells on a once off basis.

The net result in terms of weight loss is the same in terms of how to reverse the effect and shrink the activated fat cells back down to size i.e. eat less, eat the right kinds of healthy foods and exercise.

Is eating an unconscious act?

 Post Message Bill Frost HYPNOTHERAPY 25/02/2005 10:05:44

In the main - no. Eating is a process with conscious choices being made at regular points during that process. Swallowing is unconscious and some of the thoughts (e.g. translating signals from our body that tell us that we're stressed as hunger) are at least in part unconscious. We consciously choose what we decide to do in response to those thoughts and sensations.

Swallowing is mainly unconscious, but even then you still make a choice to swallow that mouthfull of food. Only when you have comitted to the act of swallowing does the process become fully unconscious and therefore inevitable. Some aspects of binging (eg eating a whole pack of biscuits) can perhaps become a little more unconscious, or more precisely the action can become a conditioned reponse. However, even in this instance momentary descisons are still being made and the cycle can be stopped any time you choose.

Hypnotherapy seeks to generate pauses in such cycles to enable you to make more constructive conscious decisions on a more regular basis.
