My husband is addicted to pornography and began to see a therapist about a year ago. He has since got worse as she has told him that he has no control over the addiction. He has become depressed and I think he maybe cheating on me. Is it true that you are an addict for life? or can hypnotherapy and EMDR assist him to get to the root of this compulsion and let us lead a happy life. We love each other dearly and do not want to part.

It is perhaps true to say that for many 'ex-addicts' the tendency to be compulsive can remain even if the addictive behaviour is under control. Were the compulsions are caused by e.g. a specific reaction to a past event the tendency to be compulsive may dissipate after the past event has been dealt with depending on how long the compulsive tendencies have been present for.

If the willingness to change is present hypnotherapy, NLP and EMDR can enable control or elimination of some aspects of the behaviour. In the case of pornography the emphasis to some extent has to really be on control because adult imagery is widely present in all media.
