Can hypnotherapy be used to stop dogs from barking too much?

The concept of animal hypnosis has been around for a while. It is actually a trance-like state that is thought to be equivalent to our freeze response. This can occur when an animal is subject to a stimuli that triggers the stress mechanism in such a way that freeze response is generated e.g. shock / fear / confusion.

In rabbits this can include lying the rabbit on it's back and then moving away: the rabbit should stay in place for longer than one might expect. I have heard of similar techniques being demonstrated with _small_ dogs.

I would however not recommend that anyone attempt any of these experiments without informed, written consent being given by the animal in question :)
