Minutes of meeting held at The Priory Centre on 17th March 2005

3. Matters Arising

Andrew reported that he had sent our views on Amnesty’s position on the use of armed force and the Choices part of the Planning pack to UK Section. Penny reported that she had booked the downstairs room for the AGM. Unfortunately, Lynne May (Regional Rep) can’t make the meeting. However, Penny has invited Julia Wassell (prospective Labour candidate for Wycombe) who promised to give a short talk.
  
4. Stop Violence Against Women Campaign
Bobby reported that he had received a response from Jacqui Smith (Deputy Minister for Women and Equality) to his letter on the subject of this campaign. Please complete the enclosed appeal case on Colombia, which is related to the March action, or visit http://www.amnesty.org.uk/members/localaction/svaw/action/appeals/2.shtml.

5. March Action – International Women’s Day Action
Those present completed postcards sending messages of support to AMNUCIC a national organisation working for the defence of peasant, black and indigenous women in Colombia.

Sarah reported that she had been asked to provide 200 words on the work of our group for a feature on the Priory Centre to be included in the South Bucks Press.

Andrew agreed to book places on the Open Day at the Human Rights Action Centre for May 14th.

Andrew agreed to post a message of condolence on the Amnesty site following the death of Peter Bennenson.

Bobby reported that he had received a response from the Home Office to a letter he sent concerning the detainees previously held in Belmarsh Prison.

The next letter writing evening is on 5th April starting at 7.30pm. This will be held at {removed}

Minutes of meeting held at The Priory Centre on 17th February 2005

3. Matters Arising

Four members attended the meeting with Hilary Benn. Penny gave a short summary of the points covered.

Three people attended the letter writing. Thanks to Michelle for hosing this.
  
4. Regional Meeting
Rebecca was due to report back from this meeting, but was unable to attend owing to illness. Penny gave a short summary of the topics discussed. Liz was also able to provide details as she had attended.
  
5. Discussion on Amnesty’s position on the use of armed force
A short discussion was held on this. The majority view was to retain Amnesty’s current position with some support for the ‘Never support but sometimes oppose’ option. Andrew will fill in the response form and return it.

6. Groups Planning Pack
It was agreed that we continue working on the Control Arms campaign and the Violence Against Women campaign. Ian expressed an interest in the Administration of Justice campaign. Andrew will complete the choices form and return it.

7. February Action – Iran – Stop Child Executions!
Please read the enclosed action sheet or visit {removed} (see below). Send a letter to the Iranian president and the head of the Iranian Judiciary.

8. AGM
This will be held on April 21st at the Priory Centre. Penny will book the downstairs room for this. Andrew will invite our regional rep Lynne May. Andrew will send out a personal invite from Penny to dormant members. Anyone who wishes to take on one of the following roles please let either Penny or Andrew know. Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Press Officer. Andrew agreed to circulate a short description of these and any other potential roles. Members are reminded that subs become due at the AGM. These will be Ł5 or Ł2 for unwaged. Subs are used to cover the cost of the hire of the Priory Centre and posting out the minutes.

HIGH WYCOMBE AMNESTY GROUP Group No. 864

Minutes of Annual General meeting held at The Priory Centre on 21st April 2005

3. Penny welcomed everyone to the meeting especially our guest speaker Julia Wassell.
 
4. The minutes of the AGM held on 15th January 2004 were approved.

5. Ian summarised the accounts for 2004. It was agreed to forward Ł100 to UK Section. Ian reminded members that subscriptions were now due. These are Ł5 waged and Ł2 unwaged.
  
6. Penny summarised the Group’s activities over the last year. Meetings have moved from the Round House to the Priory Centre. During the year we have worked on the Violence Against Women, Arms Control and Death Penalty campaigns. We collected signatures for the Arms Control campaign. The annual sponsored walk was our only fund raising event this year. Penny thanked Paul Goodman for his responses to our letters. Various group members have attended the regional and national meetings. We have also held a number of letter writing evenings.
  
7. Penny agreed to continue as chair with Sarah assisting her. Ian agreed to continue as treasurer. Andrew agreed to continue as secretary with Bill as deputy. Sarah agreed to continue her role of press liaison. Michelle agreed to help Ian with his role of Schools/Local Groups liaison. Liz and Robert agreed to take on Fund Raising/Awareness Raising.

8. Julia recounted her experiences working in the Psychiatric system. She also shared her thoughts on her current campaign for election to Parliament.
  
9. Penny thanked those present for attending and closed the meeting.
